Margie was named to Best Lawyers 2019 for Financial Services Regulation Law.
Margie is a Member in the Firm's Financial Services Practice and Government Relations Practice. She focuses on regulated financial services with an emphasis on consumer credit, deposit issues, and residential lending and brokering.
Margie is widely respected for her extensive knowledge of federal and state mortgage banking and mortgage brokering laws. Margie co-authored "A Survey of Maryland Laws Relating to Extending Credit & Consumer Financial Services." Margie also is a significant contributor to the Firm's monthly eNewsletter, "Maryland Legal Alert," for the financial services industry. She is a frequent lecturer on topics including Truth in Lending, Real Estate Settlement Procedures, Privacy and Data Security, Fair Lending, Fair Credit Reporting, Equal Credit Opportunity, Maryland Mortgage Lending and Brokering, Maryland Credit Laws, and Litigation in Consumer Finance.
In addition, Margie advises depository institutions on a wide range of issues relating to deposits including check fraud, deposit account agreements, expedited funds availability, and attachments, garnishments, liens, and levies. She has presented lectures on Uniform Commercial Code Articles 3 and 4, Check Fraud, Fiduciary Issues for Deposit Accounts, and Litigation regarding Garnishments, Liens, and Levies. Most recently, Margie is advising depository institutions on laws that impact banking marijuana-related businesses.
For many years Margie has served as a registered lobbyist and represents banking and a variety of other business interests before the Maryland General Assembly.
From 2003 to 2007, Margie served as Vice Chair of the American Bar Association's Business Law Section Consumer Financial Services Committee, and served in numerous leadership roles for that committee prior to serving as vice chair. She served three terms as Chair of the Maryland State Bar Association's Business Law Section Committee on Consumer Credit and Financial Institutions.
Margie was named by Best Lawyers in America© as the 2014 Baltimore "Lawyer of the Year" in Financial Services Regulation Law. She was named in the 2006 - 2009 editions of Best Lawyers in America© for Financial Institutions and Transactions Law, in the 2010 - 2011 editions for Banking Law, for Financial Services Regulation Law since 2012 and for Litigation - Banking & Finance since 2013. She is a fellow of the American College of Consumer Financial Services Lawyers and served two terms on the Board of Regents of the ACCFSL. Margie is also on the Governing Committee of the Conference on Consumer Finance Law.
