Maryland Regulatory News - Summer 2016

The Maryland Board of Physicians recently revised its regulations concerning microdermabrasion. Under the new regulations, "microdermabrasion device" is no longer classified as a cosmetic medical device, and "microdermabrasion" is no longer classified as a cosmetic medical procedure. Moreover, microdermabrasion has been added to the list of actions that can be delegated by a physician to an unlicensed medical assistant without on-site supervision.

The Maryland Board of Physicians has launched a new online license verification system. Beginning July 1, 2016, license verification requests must be done via the Board's website, and any hard copy verification request received will be discarded without action. The Board's online verification system can be found at mbp.state.md.us/mbp_ah/verification.aspx.
