Solicitation of New Safe Harbors and Special Fraud Alerts: Did you know that HHS has solicited proposals for developing new, and modifying existing, safe harbor provisions under the federal Anti-Kickback Statute? HHS has also solicited proposals for new OIG Special Fraud Alerts. Special Fraud Alerts are issued to give continuing guidance with respect to potentially fraudulent or abusive practices.
Human Research Protection Programs: Did you know that the Association for the Accreditation of Human Research Protection Programs (AAHRPP), a new national accrediting entity, has developed a voluntary, peer-driven, educationally focused accreditation program for human research protection? AAHRPP released final standards and procedures for accreditation of human research protection programs on February 12, 2002. The standards are available in PDF format at www.aahrpp.org.
Model State Emergency Health Powers Act: Did you know that on October 23, 2001, the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC) released a draft of model legislation for use by state and local officials should they need to respond quickly to bioterrorism or other public health emergencies? The model Act addresses (1) what measures can be taken to detect and track potential and existing public health emergencies, (2) standards and procedures for declaring a state of emergency, (3) special executive powers that exist during a state of emergency, and (4) how to plan for and disseminate information about a public health emergency.
