Creative tax and business planning is the hallmark of our counsel to clients in all facets of international, federal, state and local taxes. Gordon Feinblatt's Tax Practice develops and implements tax planning for individuals and businesses that reflects the goals and objectives of our clients, while maximizing tax savings and minimizing tax liabilities and administrative costs.

Our tax attorneys provide innovative advice in both routine and complex domestic and international matters including income, estate and gift, real and personal property, and excise taxation. A key focus of the group is tax structuring of commercial transactions such as mergers, acquisitions, divestitures and restructurings for privately held and publicly held clients. The Tax Practice provides comprehensive "life-cycle" tax planning services for both individuals and entities, including exempt organizations.

Additionally, Gordon Feinblatt serves our clients' interests in handling federal and state tax audit and litigation matters, obtaining private letter rulings and, when appropriate, pursuing the passage of new, beneficial tax legislation.

    Opportunity Zones

The Tax Cuts and Jobs Act of 2017 created a new section of the Internal Revenue Code designed to bring investment and development into the region. Investors, business owners, developers and city officials are working together to spur economic activity incentivized by tax benefits for development in low-income and underserved communities. Investors benefit by placing unrealized capital gains into Opportunity Funds, which are then invested in these communities, or Opportunity Zones, designated in each state, including each Maryland county and Baltimore City.

Our attorneys help clients realize these potential tax benefits by advising them through this evolving landscape. We stay abreast of proposed regulations and regularly present and author content on new developments. We provide a multidisciplinary approach for our clients in navigating the Tax, Real Estate, Securities and Business considerations of Opportunity Zones.
