Cathy Bledsoe is a member of the Litigation, Family Law and Health Care Practice Groups. Her practice focuses on complex commercial litigation at the trial and appellate levels, including multi-state litigation.

Since joining the Firm in 1992, Cathy has litigated a broad spectrum of cases in state and federal courts. She has handled cases involving business torts, contract disputes, health care law, including Medicaid fraud and False Claims Act, real estate disputes, financial services litigation, estates and trusts, and family law (particularly custody disputes). Cathy has served as national trial and appellate counsel defending a firearm manufacturer in nationwide litigation brought by municipalities and individuals across the country. She served as principal author of numerous appellate briefs submitted on behalf of the manufacturer-defendants in those cases, including City of Philadelphia v. Beretta U.S.A. Corp., 277 F.3d 415 (3d Cir. 2002); Camden County Bd. of Chosen Freeholders v. Beretta U.S.A. Corp., 273 F.3d 536 (3d Cir. 2001); District of Columbia v. Beretta U.S.A. Corp., 872 A.2d 633 (D.C. 2005) (en banc); City of Chicago v. Beretta U.S.A. Corp., 821 N.E.2d 1099 (Ill. 2003); City of Cincinnati v. Beretta U.S.A. Corp., 768 N.E.2d 1136 (Ohio 2002); Ganim v. Smith & Wesson Corp., 780 A.2d 98 (Conn. 2001); Hamilton v. Beretta U.S.A. Corp., 750 N.E.2d 1055 (N.Y. 2001); People v. Arcadia Machine & Tool, Inc., 24 Cal. Rptr. 3d 659 (Cal. App. 2005); City of St. Louis v. Cernicek, 145 S.W.3d 37 (Mo. Ct. App.), pet. for transfer denied, 2004 WL 2382690 (Mo. Oct. 26, 2004). Ms. Bledsoe has argued before the United States Court of Appeals for the Fourth Circuit, United States Court of Appeals for the Ninth Circuit, and Maryland Court of Special Appeals.

Recently, Cathy has served as counsel in multi-state litigation defending a society of Roman Catholic priests in childhood sex abuse cases and has been principal author of motions for summary judgment in these cases, several of them successful.

Cathy received her J.D. from Georgetown University Law Center and her A.B. in English Literature from Stanford University. She is admitted to the bars in Maryland and the District of Columbia. Cathy serves as the firm’s Pro Bono Coordinator.
